I have been homeschooling only a couple years, we do lots of field trips, etc. I have been resisting doing a co-op.
BUT, next year, I'll only have 1 home daycare child for 1/2 on the coop day. So I decided to go for it! DD13 is starting French in the morning. She'll be dropped off on the way to the co-op, after her french lesson is done, the french teacher will bring her to the co-op for the rest of the day. They do beginner language in the mornings and dd13 is advanced. So dd9 will be dropped off at the co-op for 9 am. Then I have 2.5 hours of MOM time before the daycare child arrives at 11:30. WOOHOO... Great opportunity to book personal appointments that are such a challenge to get done. Maybe even get my hair cut! With out having to rush rush rush.
So dd9 will start her day with french, that is the only concrete thing I know. Then she will have art, performing art, phys ed and science. DD13 will start her day with art with the other instructor, then have phys ed, art, performing art and an option (sewing, cooking, science or aesthetics). Her preference in that order.
I will have to arrange for duty days at the co-op, but the family is great about it.
I'm feeling excited for next year now :)

We were in a full day co op last year, and are.signed. up again for.the fall. I had to be there helping, but what a great way for all of us to.see.our friends and learn at the same time.

I wouldn't be able to do a coop if I had to be there, as they don't allow the younger ones to be there. This works out great for me :) I'm quite excited about it.

I am now in a quandary.
We have have found an english Tutor, well, she's a retired teacher, so she could help in any area, but she has a phD in English. A family I met at swimming this summer, ends up being a homeschool family(we're everywhere, you know!)and she was talking about the teacher she hired for LA. Her grade 8 daughter was an very low mediocre writer, and her mom was struggling to help. She could see it wasn't strong, but really didn't know how to teach her to fix it. So, she found a tutor. Now in 2 years, her daughter has published an excerpt from a story in our local paper. And she writes at a high level, is studying great classics and is able to analyze and comprehend, where before she isn't.
I have 2 kiddos that need intervention. I am not a strong writer, I have great spelling, and such, but overall LA is NOT my forte at all. She is quite affordable, but if we do that, for dd15(not homeschooled) and dd13, we simply can't afford to put dd13 into the co-op as well. I'm really torn. I think the day of 'options' would be fun for her and at the moment she doesn't know about the co-op as she'd get worked up about being in the group setting with so much notice, and she'd meet more kids, but at the same time, the tutor will benefit her right through University.
What are your opinions?

Perhaps all of us here could suggest less expensive teach-yourself type resources to help your dds with their English.
We love our co-op (it's one I need to stay at, but that's the trade-off--we don't have to pay for it). It seems irreplaceable to me. You would even have the advantage of getting alone time!
If it were me (and it's not), I would look for less expensive options to teach dds English, or perhaps find another homeschooler with whom I could trade tutoring.
Just my opinion, based on my own experiences...

Amanda, I am really torn. I see the benefit of both. I need to see what the funding is. We meet with the tutor tomorrow evening, for see what she has to offer. Dh agrees that the tutor is a great thing is she can strengthen their writing, which is something I've been at loss over the last years with helping. DS18 has struggled immensely with writing. I haven't had the ability to reach them.
