Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hit me with the pros and the cons, the be ready for ___, and I wish I had known___ of this phase of life.

I'm listening. With nail biting intensity that I did not have and thought I would not ever have when I actually turned 40 almost a year ago.

Welcome to the golden season of life Martha! Actually you have a way to go before you hit the "golden" years. I turned 58 thus Summer and can honestly say I would never trade my earlier years for this time of life! I'm grateful for all the lessons God has taught me, for the grace that comes with weathering life's storms, truly appreciate the blessedness of making it this far and am so very hopeful for all that lies ahead! Hope the wisdom years bring you much of the same!

I agree with Servant. At 51 I feel better than ever, can see things in a new light...and am just so at peace. The 40's seem to be that transition time...your eyes need reading glasses(when your arms get too short and other stuff happens but it all flows and with a positive outlook, it's easy. Welcome!

Martha, I live in the perpetual Zany Zone...I'm 52, and I don't think my life will ever calm down. (There are three kinds of people in this world...regular folks, disaster magnets and people stuff happens to. My husband is in category #3, so my life is never, ever dull. Or predictable.)

So, I guess what I would say is, be ready for God to remind you now and again that you are, and always will be, Mom to your beloved children, and that they will need your wisdom no matter how many years go by (and they will ask for it, too!)...and I wish I had known how easy it is - and how essential it is - to turn the hard parts over to Our Lord and rely upon Him during the difficult times. He will give you words when you need them and help you advise your young adults when they turn to you. I know you already know this...continue to trust in Our Lord and share your faith experiences with your children, as you have always done, and enjoy the harvest you and your husband have planted, nurtured and planned for.

Well Martha I love being in my early 40s, I really do! I'm more confident, less bothered by drama, and a very sangfroid parent these days.

For me, my 40's have been all about vision.

On the down side, my eye sight (never stellar to start with) has taken the typical 40's plunge that most people experience. Hmm... graduated lenses, anyone??? I still don't think I am used to them

On the plus side, I have a better vision of how I want to live my life.
Although it has not been easy, I have made some big changes.
I feel as though in my forties I have more courage in some ways... and I love that I am still up for trying new things and learning new skills.

Bottom line: in my 40's, life has lost none of its wonder for me.

Nancy, my husband and I are *both* category #3s, so life is definitely interesting, I agree!

I'm past the halfway point of the 40's. I love it! I, too, would never go back to a younger age. But then, I was the kid who always wanted to be older and wiser. Eyesight is a big issue, and I have learned that I absolutely have to pay attention to proper diet, exercise, and sleep to function well. But I have more energy, and am better off for taking care of myself.

Take good care of yourself... and find (make!) time to rest in God's love and trust His plan for your family! I consider prayer time alone to be as essential as exercise and eating well.

Melinda, I am not even going to try those graduated lenses. I think for me, they would just not do! I am resigned to constantly switching glasses. It is the one annoyance I have found in my 40's!
