Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

33 Days to Morning Glory - has anybody used this as preparation for consecration? I am beginning this (again), but I do struggle. I started this last year (even organized it for our Parish), but missed the consecration due to illness. Although, it was a relief to miss because I was still uncomfortable. See, I am a convert of six years and wrestle with Marian devotion. I have faith in this matter, meaning I understand it to an extent and gladly accept God's Word, but to totally give myself to Her does not sit well for me. I don't think it's wrong per se, like I said I believe and trust, but it is a stumbling block for me.

I would love to hear about your use of 33 Days!

One thing that slowed down my reversion 20 years ago was devotion to Mary. A priest told me to just ask Jesus to "help me to love your mother like you do." I offered that prayer several times a day, whenever it came to mind, and rather quickly things changed. Later I understood the "whys", but at first my devotion to her was a conversion of heart more than an intellectual change.

These are poor analogies, but the consecration has been likened by some to be like these situations-

You are a little girl who loves to play with little Jesus. You know he is special, love him enormously and want to please him. As you approach his hut, you notice the things you brought to show Jesus are dirty, so you stop to see his blessed mother first and ask her what to do. She washes the toys, braids your hair and then takes you to Jesus and says, "Looks who's here to see you."

or

Imagine that you are a newlywed. You're madly in love with your husband and want to make everything just perfect for him. His mother is the most amazing mother-in-law. She's gentle, kind, generous, and loves her son and you more than you could ever have imagined. Your husband loves his mother greatly, too. She gave up everything to raise him, tended to him with great love, and always sought to understand and please him. She would be the one that you would go to for advice on how to please him. Because of her great love for him, you know she would lead you only in ways that were perfect for your relationship.

In both of those analogies, your relationship with the mother would in no way interfere or diminish your intimacy with her son. They would only increase the pleasure that you gave to the son and would make the offering of yourself more perfect.

Those analogies are not perfect, but they point a little bit in the direction of what the consecration is about.

I've used 33 Days and the original Total Consecration. It is life changing in a good way. Our Lord must be very pleased that you organized the consecration for your parish. We've done that here and it's a lot of work. Ask Him to help you to love his mother, and then start the program again. The next consecration is on the Feast of the Incarnation, which is the day Louis de Montfort saw as the best day for the consecration to take place because it was the day Christ entrusted himself to Mary's loving care.

I'm praying for you!

Trust Mary. She loves Jesus so much, and being sinless, so much more than we can. She will only bring you to him.

I used 33 Days. I really like how user-friendly it was. It was FAR less intimidating to me than St. Louis de Montfort's works...

I understand your hesitations... but through all the study and research I've done on the entrusting myself to her idea... ultimately for me it came down to the simple and childlike "Mama". She is my mama and I trust she knows better for my prayers than I do... (through God's grace of course). I want what she wants because of her proximity to her Son and because He so ordained it at the foot of the cross. He gave us Her. "Behold your Mother." And the fact that she is great and wonderful and comforting and inspirational is not a reflection on HER glory so much as it a reflection on HIS glory.

She is "Mirror of Justice"... all glory goes back to Him...
