Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been praying rosary novenas recently, and following along with the mysteries outlined in Michelle Quigley's planner (awesome planner!). I seem to remember that this is what the Church advises as well. But what I would prefer to do would be to pray the mysteries chronologically: Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, Glorious with the Glorious always falling on Sunday (and praying the Luminous only once each week).

So here is my silly question: Is that plan okay? Would it be preferable to pray the mysteries in the prescribed order for any spiritual reason, ie: they are more powerful because many in the Church are meditating on the same mysteries?

I don't know about the official answer, but I also seem to *get more out of it* when I meditate on the mysteries in chronological order.

Peace,
Nancy

I was thinking about this the other night. Right now I am doing the 54 Day Rosary Novena and the mysteries are said in chronological order without respect to the day of the week. The only problem with that is that you can end up praying the Sorrowful on Sunday or Glorious on Friday!

I guess you could get through them once in order and then three out of order if you started on Monday with Joyful, but I think there is spiritual significance in doing the Sorrowful on Friday and the Glorious on Sunday.

Oh I'm glad I'm not the only one who's wondered about this! I am also doing the 54 day novena right now, but I didn't realize the mysteries go in order for that.

I hadn't thought about Friday; I forgot that it's always supposed to be a penitential day. Hm. My heart says just go chronologically, it's not like we don't touch on some pretty sorrowful topics during the readings at Mass, you know? Though if anyone can give me a "definite" reason for not doing it that way I'd be interested to hear it.
