I have purchased Motivated Moms for years - notice I said purchased - not done! When I do it diligently, my husband is very complimentary. I tend to do it in fits and starts. I have been making my own rotation using old MMs as a starting place, and customizing them for our family (cat boxes .) I remember Jen Mackfam saying either here or on her blog that she schedules "pantry days" to restock dry mixes and clean up baking area. I am looking for other unusual tips to include. Motivated Moms is pretty thorough, but I am looking forward to your favorite oddball home organization tasks that aren't typically included. My girls are 13 and 10 now, so they are capable of most anything. I switched the chores up a bit this past week - I had one in charge of the kitchen (mostly, dishes and counters and floors), and one in the laundry.) I was rather satisfied when the kitchen daughter lectured me on being messy when I bake - she is starting to appreciate how much work it is. She whined about the new chore breakdown (this is the 13 year old BTW ), but yesterday she decided on her own to organize cabinets while she was unloading the dishwasher.
I hear people say (online) that children shouldn't be slaves! I think how sad that is to deprive children of a sense of accomplishment in mastering skills that will make their future domestic lives that much more tranquil. (I am a recovering slob, BTW )

I can relate to a lot of what your are saying, Michelle. I, too, am a recovering slob, and I wish I'd been made to do more chores as a matter of routine.

I am revisiting our chores and routines as I emerge from pregnancy/newborn fog. I have found that while doing a little bit daily is probably most logical, I don't operate so well that way. It is almost certainly a lack of discipline!! But still, there it is. So, as I look towards the things I want done seasonally, I am looking for places to write them in on my calendar in the coming year, like appointments with myself that I must keep. Lent, Holy Week, and Spring cleaning seem easy, but for the rest of the year, I am looking at the Ember Days as hard dates on the calendar for our family. They would be especially appropriate for the restocking of the pantry, and while I know that my goal to clean out the kitchen cabinets isn't traditional, I at least hope to perform these activities in a spirit of thanksgiving and good stewardship over the things in my possession.

Cleaning the kitchen, assessing the pantry, and making seasonal meal plans are high on my list of routines I want to do at least quarterly.
