Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello and Happy Easter!

I hope you all had a blessed Holy Week and are now enjoying this happy Easter time

My question today is has anyone tried Thred Up? It seems to be all the rage right now in on line consignment/thrift shopping.

Basically, it works this way: you order a clean out bag, which is sent to you for free, fill it with clothes you'd like to sell, and leave it on your porch for Fed-Ex to pick up (also free).

Your bag is then evaluated at Thred Up. Certain brands qualify for payment to you up front. Others pay you if the item sells. The website has a price finder to give you an idea of what you might earn and also what brands are accepted.

And, of course, you can just shop there if you'd like without selling anything.

I ordered a clean out bag, and it came yesterday (took a little over a week to get it). So I am going to try out the system.... I don't know how well I'll do, but I love that I can do this all from home. Huge bonus.

I think it would be a great thing if you had a lot of baby clothes that were only worn a few times or were the wrong season, etc.

Any payment you receive can be used as credit to shop or can be sent to you via Pay Pal.

Thred Up

If anyone has tried it, I would love to hear how you did!

I love ThredUp! I need to put another of their ad/linky things on my Facebook, because having people shop through your link is, in my experience, the best way to rack up credit. What with a $10 first-time-shopper credit, plus credits from my link, in my first shopping trip there I got about $50 worth of merchandise -- which is a LOT at ThredUp -- free.

I too ordered a bag and cleaned my closet. They are not kidding when they say they're picky -- of the clean, in-good-shape, basically on-trend items I sent in (including one thing I had bought from them and just threw in, rather than returning it, because I thought, hey, if they took it once . . . ), they took one item and awarded me $3 credit. That was a bit of a disappointment, especially as I had searched their offerings pretty extensively and was sending in items that were very much like other things I had seen on the site.

Still -- I got my closet de-cluttered, which was something. But doing their advertising for them and driving people there through a link you provide seems to be the most failsafe way to earn credits.

I do love their prices, though -- mostly comparable with Goodwill, and their quality is high. I got Garnet Hill and Talbots t-shirts that I've worn and worn, plus a knit Old Navy dress that I love . . . I really want to go shopping there again, but need to earn some more credits before I can justify doing so!

Thanks for this info, Sally. I also read on the website that they are very picky.

Is there a way to narrow searches beyond size and/or color?

Or- how do you go about shopping there? There are so many pages of clothing to look through- do you just shop until you are tired or find something you like?

It seems like it could take hours to look through even just one category, like sweaters.

You can search by brand as well. But I think in general you do need time and stamina . . .

Update:

I sent in my bag in April. I did not have a lot that I thought would be accepted, so I only sent four items. The bag seemed pretty empty!

It took over a month for me to get confirmation that the bag had been received, and then about ten more days to get my pay out notice.

All the items I sent were accepted, and my pay out was $4.20... so about $1 per item, which is probably what I would have priced them for a yard sale.

I can take my payment via Pay Pal, which is what I will probably do.

Overall, not a speedy process or a very lucrative one (for the items I had) but it was extremely easy, which was a huge plus. I would probably do it again if I had more items for the bag, which I very well might come fall. This time I only sent summer items.
