Starting off the New Year with a bang, the post office will be increasing the price of a first class stamp from $0.46 to $0.49 at the end of this month.

I think the rate increase is set for Jan 26, but I could be off a day or two there.

Anyway, now is a good time to stock up on forever stamps, especially if you are planning to send out invitations this year for a baptism, First Communion, graduation, wedding, etc.

One bright spot is that you can order stamps on line from the USPS, and the shipping charge is only $1.25 per order. I definitely would rather pay $1.25 than make an extra trip to the post office Also, Costco (and maybe Sams?) sells stamps, so you can pick them up there if you are planning a shopping trip anyway.

ETA: I have bought stamps on line many times because I like to browse the selection. My local PO carries flag stamps and maybe one or two other designs at a time. I usually get the stamps within a week- sometimes as long as 10 days.

Melinda, thanks for the heads up on stamp prices! I placed an order this morning, getting in just under the Jan. 26 wire! Ordering stamps online is such a wonderful option, especially on a blustery, bone-chilling Saturday! There are so many more choices online than our tiny rural post office has to offer! Best of all, $1.25 S&H costs less than gas for a roundtrip there! Just wanted to thank you and remind anyone who might still want to place an order before the increase tomorrow.
