This post made me think of sharing our homemade wipe idea.

I have kept wipes in the van for about a year, and we just love them, but this week I had another idea to save on paper towels and the trash from them.

I took all of dh's old undershirts and cut them into about 8x8 squares. (I got about 50 from 5 or six shirts. Folded, they fit into a square Tupperware container. I poured over them this wipe recipe:
2 cups boiling water, mixed with
1 tsp. baby shampoo
25 drops tea tree oil

The first time we used them the kids were all "Ooooh! I like these better than the paper towels, Mama!" Seems they are easier to use and don't tear. We throw them into a plastic bag that hangs on the arm rest, but I think I will make a cloth bag, so they can get air and dry out. When the Tupperware container gets low, I can just throw them in the washer and start over.

Granted, this way will use more ingredients, but I like the idea of re-using the them instead of continually buying and throwing away paper towels. They smell great and work well.

Ok sounds good but how did your get your dh to part with his shirts hmmm?

i swear my dh has shirts from before we met 13 yrs ago

they have to literally disinegrate before he will give them up.

i like to use the burts bees baby wash in a similar mix.

the only difference is things are so quick to mold or go funky here we keep the mix in a plastic squeeze bottle in the box with the wipe and just moisten as we need them.

I use to do this exact same thing as Liz for diaper wipes. However, sometimes when left in a hot car for a loooooong time they would begin to mold. So, now I keep the water part in a squirt bottle and just apply the water/soap on the wipe when needed.

I've always assumed that the tea tree oil would kill any bacteria. (I think I may have read that somewhere) and we had these in the car all summer without mold. Am I just lucky so far? getting paranoid now.....
