Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do any of you give May Day baskets? What do you give and to whom?

We make May baskets for the dc Godmothers, and I am looking for new ideas.

We usually place a paper cone with flowers & a holy card on the door of an elderly neighbor who is at home with a chronically ill adult child.I can't wait to see everyone else's ideas!

A couple years ago, Alice posted some lovely May Day basket ideas on her blog and it rekindled the idea for me. I hadn't done it since I was a girl and then it was only once with my cousins. Anyway, we have now done baskets the last two years. We incorporated the May Marian theme and make them Mary baskets. We inlcude flowers, and then any Marian articles I happen to have around. We have done plastic rosaries, Miraculous medals, holy cards, Lourdes water. The families we have picked are Catholic families with young children (some are homeschooling friends). We don't have any family nearby or we would do them.

Anyway here it a thread from a few years ago. It has the links to Alice's original blog entry and Dawn's and Christine's also for that year. There is a picture of the ones our family did, uploaded here and several other links to ideas.

We received the pretty paper cones filled with silk flowers and a holy card from both Elizabeth's kids and Mary Chris' kids last year. I still have them and they are hanging on the closet doors in my craft room - makes me think of those 2 families every day!
