Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Well it took me years to get rid of the paper towels and go to the white industrial cloths and towels from Costco for kitchen use. I've had those for a year now. I figure now it is time to find an alternative to cleaning them other than with bleach, because I'm thinking too much bleach isn't a good thing, for the cloth or the environment.

I saw this thread from 2006. It had some mention of Biokleen and Bac-out (I think it was).

Anyways, what do you use to clean your towels that is milder than bleach?

I'm starting to use cloth diapers, and you are not supposed to use bleach on them at all. The top recommendations for keeping them white are:
1. Occasionally adding some baking soda to the wash to whiten.
2. Occasionally adding some vinegar to the wash to deodorize.
3. Dry them out in the sunshine.

I just wash in really hot water.

Now I've done it, no one will ever come and eat at my house again because I don't bleach my dish towels, or anything else. I also try and fail miserably to wash them often.

But you know, I have not given up my paper towels habit, I use them way to often, probably why I don't need to bleach my dish towels.

Lemon spritze and hang them in the sun (or dryer in winter). The heat mixes with the lemon juice bleaches out stains and kills molds and mildews.
