Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

One of my plans this year, is to eat more locally, and seasonally
I was just thinking of putting a seasonal foods list in my Home Companion and then, it struck me, surely other want to know about them too?

So, I figured this thread could serve several purposes:

Lists of seasonal foods, recipes for seasonal foods, links to seasonal food recipes and websites and books .

Eat the Seasons UK Site

Eat Seasonal

Seasonal Wiki Page

Seasonal Foods for Winter

Eating in Season

Anything else to add?

From Anne: Simply in Season by Mary Beth Lind and Cathleen Hockman-wert

Thank you Rachel - these are great links.

Are you doing any VA CSAs this year?

You might want to add the book, Simply in Season by Mary Beth Lind and Cathleen Hockman-Wert, to your list.
I love this book. Recipes categorized by seasonal availability. Includes crock pot and easy recipes. So far, there has only been one recipe we didn't like.

Slightly off topic but here is the danger of eating seasonally

Twas The Month After Christmas

Twas the month after Christmas, and all through the house,
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse. The cookies I'd nibbled, the chocolate I'd taste At the holiday parties had gone to my waist. When I got on the scales there arose such a number! When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber), I'd remember the marvellous meals I'd prepared; The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared, The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please." As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt And prepared once again to do battle with dirt... I said to myself, as I only can, "You can't spend a winter, disguised as a man!" So, away with the last of the sour cream dip. Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip. Every last bit of food that I like must be banished Till all the additional ounces have vanished. I won't have a cookie, not even a lick. I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick. I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie. I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry. I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore... But isn't that what January is for? Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.

Happy New Year to all, and to all a good diet!

That is funny Erin
Anne, I'll stick the book in the top post
Marilyn, I'd like to do the CSA, but my DH isn't going for it ... he thinks vegetables make him fat and that they are evil. Of course he only eats beans, corn, potatoes and peas.
In the meantime, I am aiming to do my garden BETTER this year and truly eat local

Which one was it? I haven't tried everything yet. Sweet Potato Rolls are so yummy! I love this book too. The best cookbook I own.

Oh, Anne! Try it again. I really liked this one, but now that I think about it, I never can stick to a recipe. So maybe I changed it too much. It's been awhile now, but I remember I was feeding a crowd so I cut the chicken up into small pieces and I used apricot sauce. I wonder if that helped. I'll have to look at it again.

I am going to try making Company Muffins tonight. I hope they are yummy, because they look healthy and filling. Of course, I am making a few changes...
