My dad brought up a Honeybaked Ham for us this Christmas and I thawed it to serve last night. My kids didn't like it. I didn't put the glaze on it so I guess it was the seasoned crust on the ham itself.

So what can I do now? Any idea how to salvage this? There is no way Husband and I can eat the whole thing. I don't think I can refreeze it in small sections, can I? Anyone have any recipe ideas that might disguise the flavor?

How big is it? Will the kids eat sandwiches made out of the ham? Can you cut up the ham so that the top crust is removed when you serve it?

Stef had some leftover ham recipes.

I'd think about cutting up the ham into several portions to make other meals, such as red beans and rice, split pea soup, ham tetrazinni, mac and cheese with ham. Dh's mom always made leftover ham with green beans and potatoes (haven't tried that).

I'm sure there are tons of other ideas. Seems you could make other freezeable meals. But ham does keep well and longer than other meats.

as long as it was defrosted in the fridge.. you can refreeze it.

Yep, it will re-freeze just fine. I'd worry about those kids though; Honey Baked Hams are the best!!!

I don't like the taste of HBH either . My dh loves it, and he and dd18 also LOVE the ham salad from the HBH store (and dd usually hates anything with mayo, so this was very weird.)

I find if I can kind of hide the ham flavor, I can eat it. Like make a fried rice, or split pea or lentil soup, with the ham pieces cut small.

But there is just something about the flavor of HBH I can't stand...it is the same with their Turkey....I am not sure if it is in the smoking process they use, or that crusty topping. Blech.

We failed to cull our flock of chickens this fall and as a result, we get about two dozen eggs every day...which is why Ive had QUICHE on the brain lately.

You could chop the ham and put in in a quiche. I dont know how much you are wanting to disguise the ham, but perhaps it would taste ok if it was in the quiche with some nice cheese and possibly some veggies like spinach or broccoli, some garlic and onions.

We roasted a pig at our wedding reception and have an upright freezer full of leftover pork, so I feel your pain. How about ham barbecue? I had never heard of it before I lived in Pittsburgh but it's a local favorite there.

Here is a recipe made with ketchup and other things

but some people make it with coca cola or pepsi and its surprisingly tasty...and Im a person who does not care for colas.
