) and the wood holds the stitches on while allowing them to slide a little. Make sure your wooden needles are polished occasionally (mineral oil or baby oil occasionally rubbed on cleaned needles works great) and they'll feel wonderful in your hands.

Once the needles are sanded nicely, glue a button (or bead or make a cap with oven bake clay or use an acorn cap or whatever you'd like) to the non-sharp end -- this will keep the stitches from sliding off. Once the glue is dry, oil your needles -- making sure to rub the oil in completely as you don't want oil on your yarn. And you're all set. My kids loved making these last year!
