Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

From time to time, there are ladies here who find themselves in need--whether it's a lost job, a fire, a flood,or some cascade of catastrophe. And we usually organize gift cards and rise to the occasion nicely. We have some women in that situation among us right now.

Mary Chris and I brainstormed early this morning about how to meet that need at the conference. We are soliciting donations from you all in order to hold a raffle and raise money for a scholarship fund. If you have a home business and can donate a raffle prize, if you feel called to put together a basket of goodies that would appeal to a mom, if you want to be a part of offering tangible support to women here who need us, please PM me (I better clean out my box) and let me know. I'll send you my address and you can get it on its way (time's ticking quickly now)! There are so many talented ladies here--please, please bless someone in need with your gifts!

Liz, you could certainly bring them. It might be good if I have an idea what to expect, just so I can get a mental visual of how this is going to work.

I could donate some hand spun yarn. Is that what you had in mind?

I'd like to send something but would like some more definite suggestions. Do you mean homeschooling stuff, like school supplies, or something similar, or are other things like food, etc. or gift cards or checks too? Since we're not coming are you also looking to receive things in the mail, or will this be too much to organize? My main concern is will it get there by the conference?

Stef,
Instead of donating to the person in need, you are donating a basket of goodies which can be raffled to raise money to give to the person who needs it.Some of those funds will be dispersed the day of the conference so that she can do a little curriculum shopping. Some of the funds will be reserved for other scholarship-type needs. That way, next time a need like this crops up, we could purchase a gas card or a gift card to meet the specific request. Make sense?

If we are unable to attend the conference and also don't feel we have anything to offer, could we donate money towards the fund?

Ditto...I don't think I can get anything there on time!

Cash contributions are definitely appreciated. I guess you could paypal it to me and I can put it in the fund. Or you could mail a check and that would work too.

Mary Chris and I are just amazed and so appreciative of the warm response we've gotten. You all are awesome!
