Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have been suffering with sinus headaches for the last couple of days. Since I am pg I have not wanted to take anything with the exception of the occassional Tylenol. Someone posted this recipe on a Yahoo! group that I am on and I thought I would pass it along here as it gave me the relief I so desperately needed.

Tomato tea

1 c tomato juice
1 T lemon juice
1 t Tabasco sauce
1 t finely chopped garlic

heat and then sip

Just some notes on my experience with this. I double the batch as dh always wants some, too. So, I don't bother measuring the lemon juice or the garlic. For a double batch I use the juice of 1/2 a lemon and I just eyeball the garlic (which I crush in a garlic press) because as far as we are concerned you can never have too much garlic.    This stuff has worked wonders for me. I also have been putting eucalyptus eo in the medicine cup of my warm mist vaporizer. That helped alot, too. I finally woke up without a sinus headache today!

Well, hubby and I liked it!! The kids are not into tomato juice so that was a stretch. I am ever so grateful, actually feeling much better this evening to get online again .

Poor Mary Ann. Will add her to our prayer list.

So glad to see you here, Beth!

I'm game! My sinuses just starting acting up today. I'm drinking this before I go to bed and will report back in the morning. I'm really hoping the hot sauce helps. Another similar remedy I use is:

Garlic Tea:
Crush/press garlic cloves (as many as you can stomach 4+) into a quart mason jar. Fill with boiling water and put on lid. Let sit for 30 mins. Remove lid and add lemon juice and honey to taste. (You know you are sick when THIS tastes good!)

Love,

I am feeling much better today as far as congestion goes. Thanks Beth!!! It was wonderful to have this rememdy delivered right to my house. I have been feeling pretty worn down with this flu and also my oldest dd's visit from CA. But the tomato tea worked wonders. Now I'm off to make some for my oldest ds, who came home from work feeling sick.

Stef, thanks for the prayers. Hope your house is feeling better soon!

Dh will love this...so will my big kids!

As for me, sounds like a good mixer...chilled, add a little vodka, and I won't even notice my sinuses .

MacBeth - this had me in giggles. Unfortunately - I am expecting so have to stay with no vodka.
Reminds me of the wedding anniversary that some kind neighbors volunteered to have my 3 children under 4 for a couple of hours so that dh and I could go out for a romantic dinner. I do not really have much alcohol apart from the occasional glass of wine - but for some reason decided to have a Bloody Mary - which ended up being very potent. I ended up up falling asleep in this very nice restaurant and not making it to dessert. End of that romantic evening!!! I have not been able to face vodka after that!!!

For some reason, bartenders tend to make Bloody Marys in tiny glasses, so once they add the vodka there's no room for the mixer . Sorry to hear that ruined a lovely evening! That would put me off, too!

Have you ever heard of a neti pot? It's an Eastern home remedy for sinus infections. It was recommended to me by a priest who used to have terrible sinus infections but has been completely cured since using it. You can find out more at Bytheplanet.com

I have heard of a neti pot and have always thought about getting one. I might have to finally get one.

I am glad that everyone likes the tea.

Unfortunately my DH wont touch ANYTHING tomato... BUT I can help with Sinuses..

ANYTHING hot and spicy is good for it.
Hot Coffee (preferably caffeinated although decaff will work)
Hot chicken (or other) soup... add a little spice for good measure
Hot baths/showers
Vicks Vapo Rub
A hot washcloth held over your face/eyes-nose area.
