Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Ladies,

I read posts from some of you in the past about the effectiveness of Hylands. In looking at some product info. online it says to use after diagnosis of an ear infection...have you used them w/o a diagnosed infection?

Our youngest (7 mos. old) is just miserable. His nose is very congested, cough sometimes, and is just sad ...most unlike himself; also some diaper rash which isn't usual for him...it must be painful b/c diaper changes turn him inside out). (the cough started Fri. and the misery late on Saturday). I'm wondering about his ears b/c he wants to be upright...although slept like a champ flat in bed last night. Maybe the upright postion he craves is b/c of the congestion.

I've got zippo knowledge on natural remedies but am very interested in them. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

PS I'm sorry this has gotten so ramble-y...just concerned about my little guy.

I'm so sorry he's so miserable Marie!    I wondered when I just saw your dh and two of the girls at mass on Sunday. I haven't used Hyland for suspected ear infections, but I will tell you what I have done. At the first suspicion of an earache, I start dropping breastmilk in the ear, about 5 or 6 times a day, just a few drops. After a day or two, if I don't notice improvement, I puncture a garlic capsule and drip the oil directly into the ear. That has taken care of the situation in all but one of my children. To comfort him try warm compresses on his ears. Take a rice sack or just a sock filled with rice and heat it in the microwave, and when it's cool enough to be comfortable, hold it to his ears. Another option is to keep a hat on him all the time, even inside, keeping his ears cozy. That usually helps bring comfort.

I'm sorry I couldn't help with the Hylands, maybe someone else knows?

Also, don't forget the power of prayer. Lay your hands directly on his little ears and pray for healing. I will pray he feels better soon and that you all get some comfort and rest.

Marie,

It sounds like you *might* be dealing with some teething issues also. This can affect the ears, nose, cause a cough and stomach issues!!

To answer your question, "yes" I have given my children homeopathic medicine especially teething tablets or ear ache tablets without a doctor's diagnosis. I also use the garlic or "sweet oil" drops in the ear. If I don't see improvement with in 24 hours then I know that is not the problem.

That is the beauty of homeopathic medicine. In a very crude explanation the body uses only what is needed and discards the rest. So trying something will not cause additional complications.

Thank you Lisa & Leslie for your good info. I learned a lot from you both!

Alex is feeling better....in hindsight I think his diaper rash was what was causing the most discomfort. It is beginning to clear up.

He did have a new tooth pop through yesterday (his 5th!) and seems to have another close behind! Maybe that is the origin of these symptoms.

Thanks again for the help!
