Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Apparently this is common practice now (at least around here) b/c of outbreaks of the whooping cough within the past year the nurse said they've recommended that after delivery, mom gets the vaccine. They are also recommending dad get it as well.

She did say that some moms call in w/ fever and flu-like symptoms shortly after receiving the shot in the hospital once they've gone home so I was just wondering is there any valid reason NOT to get this? I know there's a lot of passionate views one way or the other about vacc. in general and honestly I tend to vaccinate so unless there's specific and serious reasons to avoid this, my DH and I will prob. get it. Just thought I'd see if anyone knew of specific reasons not to.

Thanks,

I'm not against all vaccines but from everything I've heard.. it only gives you immunity for about a year.. or at least.. if you're exposed to whooping cough.. they'll treat you the same as if you never had it if it's been more than a year.

I had it after delivery no problem. I had dh get it too no issues. A baby with pertussis is not good so I felt it was worth it. Annie
