Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This seems to be our family trait, someone will vomit (nothing coming out other end) just the straight up, vomit a few times and you feel better sort of thing.

Then a full 48 hours or more (in this case 3 full days) another child in my home will start the same thing! OR the one who started it off will have a repeat occurance.

this always makes the stomach bug in my home stretch out for up to 14 DAYS I am not kidding!

what am I doing wrong?

I always introduce solids very very slowly, mild foods and not much of them, I disinfect everything, and I try not to let my guard down..

does this happen to any of you??

Yep, happens here too. But with my children, the sick one takes a long time to totally feel better and will vomit once a day for up to 2 weeks. This happens no matter what the child eats. I am just glad that all of them can not make it to the bathroom.

Sorry you have to deal with this.

so do you stay home the entire time?
I am trying to find a balance between being a recluse and getting out and about too quickly.

I really am starting to question the adage:" 24 hours without vomiting and you are ok" that many in homeschooling groups, classes, etc hold as the standard.

I know for a fact from my google searches and my own kids that this is not true!

but do I stay home the entire two weeks that I've got a vomiter? because we obviously are still passing it around??

We haven't had this since we moved away. But, it happened a few times when we were in IL. The last time it happened we did pass it on to some mutual friends and my visiting brother. It had been over two days since any incident so I didn't think we were contagious anymore. But, as we were babysitting our friend kids, N. regurgitated his food. That night my Brother was sick, and two days later the friends kids were sick. I felt soooooo terrible. I thought for sure we were over it. So, I can only relate, not help....

That pretty much is what last fall, winter and spring was like at our house. Usually one child would get the stomach bug, two days later, the next and on down the line. I would usually get it the last, two weeks after the first kid got sick. My two oldest were in school last year, a small parish school that didn't have a full-time janitor. Lunch tables and bathrooms were not cleaned daily, and I am sure that is why the viruses got passed around so frequently. The health department even came out to the school after a Friday where 80 (out of a school of less than 200) children were out sick (60 went home sick, 20 called in sick). Anyhow, I digress. The health department official told us that the virus can shed for 3-14 days after symptoms stop.

Part of the problem is when this goes around in a large family is that there are microscopic airborne particles every time somebody vomits. When you share bedrooms and bathrooms, it is almost impossible to get all the germs. My boys were always the first ones to get sick, because they all share a bedroom and someone always gets sick in the middle of the night (and doesn't make it to the bathroom).

To finally answer your question, I generally AM a recluse until it's been at least 4-5 days since the last person had any symptoms.

This happens quite a lot, I tend to keep lots and lots of towels around. I just let my kids take it easy and really try to disinfect but it does not work all the time. I am so sorry you are going through that.
