I received the results from my first glucose test and I'm in total shock! I tested 1 point above the normal range at 141 so they want to do the three hour glucose test tomorrow after fasting. I've been so good avoiding white flour and not eating ANY sweets but 1/2 serving of fruit everyday, basically limiting my carbs between 25 grams and 50g. I cannot believe they came back high. Diabetes does not run in my family. Everything was normal with my first child and I ate ice cream and plenty of starches with her. If they test high for the three hour I won't be able to deliver with my midwife.  Is there anybody here who tested a little high after the first one but then everything came out fine with the 3hour test? Is there anything I can do to stop the gestational diabetes?

I don't have diabetes, but I get it when pregnant. It's not an indication that you are eating incorrectly, it's just how your placenta is acting with your body. It's NOT YOUR fault. If you really have GD you can help lower the numbers by counting your carbs.
That being said, don't allow yourself to think you have GD until you hear the results of your 3 hour GTT. Sometimes the one hour can be wrong, depending on your stress level, what you ate (or didn't) that day. That's why they are asking for further testing.

I just talked to my friend today who is 42 and pregnant with her second. She had GD with her first (11 years ago) and even tested high with each of her miscarriages at around 9 weeks and 11 weeks. She was positive that she was going to have GD with this one. She failed her one hour big time. She took the 3 hour on Friday (just about had to crawl out of there when it was done) and just got her results today. She passed with flying colors! There is hope for you! Hang in there!

I did some extensive reading up on this when I had a few high numbers. (We did randem testing, not a one hour or anything like that.) I would NOT do a 3 hour test if my numbers came back so close to normal such as yours. Like Jenn said, many different things factor into this. The three hour test is certain to strain and stress you out more. I would just watch carbs and refined sugars. We had a lengthy post on this a few months ago, and one mama gave me some really good advise. I'll try to dig it up.

For my 1st and 2nd pregnancies, I scored high on my one hour, but passed my 3 hour with no GD diagnosis.
I developed GD with my 4th pregnancy. (3rd was a miscarriage)
Here's hoping you pass your 3 hour with flying colors :)

I'm thinking taking the test tomorrow will not be a good idea. My emotions right now are preventing me from eating dinner. I just can't stomach it right now and then to have to get up and not eat breakfast to go to the birth center and drink a fake orange soda concoction and then wait three hours to eat will be too much. I'm under the impression though that I have to take the test. I don't think they will continue to see me if I don't.

I'm going to pass on tomorrow's glucose test due to the stress I put myself under worrying about everything. I picked up a glucose monitor with strips tonight and I will be monitoring my sugars for the next week to have a detailed record of my levels when I go to see them at my scheduled appointment. I will take it when I get up in the morning and then 2 hours after every main meal. If this is not the correct way to test, please let me know.
Oh, and I forced myself to eat dinner for the little one. It was a late dinner but at least I ate.
