I have been diagnosed with sinus infection, and pneumonia. I've been drinking loads of hot tea, taking zinc and Emergen'C, and plain mucinex 1200 mg. (guifenison).

I am (reluctantly) on an antibiotic.

My head is just killing, my teeth and upper jaw ache, as well as my ears, under my eyes, etc. I have had this sinus pressure now for over two weeks and really cannot function well. I can't sleep at night because it just hurts so bad!

I seem to be able to expell copius amounts of mucous , however, the pressure/pain remains

any tips?

a neti pot to flush the sinuses is supposed to work wonders for that.

for myself the pressure is usually more swollen tissue than gunk.. so an antihistamine usually works better than a decongestant.. or both in combination.

I've also found pineapple (bromelain) can help.. and a cold pack can help. Both reduce the swelling easing the pressure and so reduce pain.

I have used a neti pot to relieve *bad* sinus infections AND silver. I have never been on an antibiotic for one.

In fact the first one that I had I was pregnant and I didn't know what I had so I lived with it for four weeks. It was the worst I ever felt in my life. I just started taking silver and it went away in three days. It was amazing. Since then I started using a neti pot when I feel one coming on and I can usually nip it in the bud. I have also heard of putting silver in your nose too to help, or in the neti pot, but I haven't done that.

ok, I have bromelain,I'll try that.

and I have been flushing regularly with Saline solution, but just as a spray, interestingly Dr advised Neti Pot or Saline Spray...

I have heard of using silver, but can't recall where/what for. I will look into that.

This has just totally knocked me out.

It is a natural antibiotic, so I use it for what might require an antibiotic.

Some of the things that I have used it for is...putting it in the kids ears if they have an earache, sinus infections, put in on a localized infection, etc.

It has worked really well for us and doesn't carry the "baggage" of an antibiotic (which I like to try not to take unless it's really necessary).

I just hold a cup of warm salt water to my nose and sniff it gently in. Not a spray and not the special pot, but it works great! I do it fairly often--once an hour or so. Praying this is over for you soon. I know the pain.

ear candles and an ice pack were the best relief I ever had ! I had my first ever sinus infection two yrs ago .I didn't know what had hit me .
The first dr. I went to assumed I was a welfare indian looking for drugs .
The second dr. Thanks be to God knew exacxtly what it was when I told him my head was on fire .
I got antibiotics etc. but the pian remained . Iused to as a child have my ears cleaned out with water . So I bought ear candles . The relief was instant . also the homopathic hot/cold treatment worked to help drain my sinus . I just place a ice pack on the areas needed for a bit then let them warm up again .You can do the hot cold cloth thing but I really find ice pack works great .
I've not had another infection because I can feel the sinus now building up so I just unblock and am fine .
hope this helps . Lov Rox

Oh, Lisa, how awful!

Several people on a local list that I am on just recommended eucalyptus oil for swelling in the nasal passages and sinuses. They said to just put a few drops on your shirt and breathe it in.

Hope you feel lots better soon!

Lisa -
I am also a big fan of the neti pot. BUT if you're on antibioticss and doing all of the other things that sound so right, AND you still have this much pain, I would really encourage you to get back in touch with your doctor. Sinus infections can be really tough customers and can also be very dangerous if not dealt with. You might need a change in antibiotic or sometimes people even need to have a procedure to drain their sinuses. I know none of those sound like exciting prospects, but there are definitely times when they are the best and appropriate course of action. Really, I"m not an alarmist. I just don't want you to sit on something that needs doctoring.

Hugs and prayers for recovery.

Peace,
Nancy
