Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was reading here:

http://montessoriforeveryone.blogspot.com/

about toys and the Montessori classroom. I have some toys that I think are educational, but I don't know if I should have them available during our school time or save them for after. These include things like Wedgits, Legos, Gears, K'Nex, etc. Mostly construction toys. What do you think? Would you make these available during your Montessori work time, or would they be off limits until after "school"? This would be for a child who is in the 5-7 age range.

I think it is your call. I am not a pure Montessorian by any stretch but I have mine separate simply because my six year old would play all morning with his playmobil men and blocks if I had them in the learning room.

I try to keep the kids focused on work from the Montessori shelves before letting them run off to play. My three year old works for maybe three quarters of an hour or so. My six year old maybe a bit longer. Then I set them both free to play together while I work with my 10ds for a while longer. That is usually when the 3dd and 6ds will take out wooden trains, blocks, men etc.

Becky, this is a lovely site, thanks for linking it here. I agree with Rebecca, in that for us, my boys would never be able to be in the same room as their legos and NOT be able to play with them.    They could certainly be used for counting and sorting though, maybe with tweezers?? Just a thought...
