Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I thought some of you would appreciate seeing these monthly lesson plans.

There doesn't follow the traditional Montessori curriculum but I thought it was particularly useful to see how you can transfer the principles to your home. Of course, I still think observing the child is the most important preparation. You never know what sparked his interests, but you might have a good idea on how to keep the fire going.

Oh, how fun! I think I can do without the daily yoga positions, but the rest is good! Thanks, Genevieve!

At the charter school I used to teach at (Evergreen) we did calisthenics every day with our middle schoolers (I taught 7th grade there). We did them at about 1.5 hours into the morning for about 20 minutes. Th idea was that after sitting still and doing seatwork for that long, the kids needed to be up and moving in order to increase blood flow, and therefore oxygen flow to the brain, so they could then sit back down and concentrate again. That, plus a snack really helped as I found that on the days when we got busy and forgot or skipped it for some reason, we had many more problems with concentration and behaviors. Once I discovered this I made sure that we at least got up and moved and did stretches at that time each day.
So, not saying you have to do yoga (the 8th graders actually did a yoga class each morning), but the idea behind getting up and moving as part of your day is a sound one.
Now I send my ds out to do barn chores at that time of day. Shoveling manure will definitely get you breathing and your blood pumping!
