Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been lurking on this board for the past week or so just soaking in the information. I just started making materials, reading books, etc. and I'm SOO excited about all of it. I just put up a blog post about some of the things I've made, and the kids using the materials. I plan to work on the practical life/sensorial stuff this summer and start in the math, language and culture in the fall. So far everyone is having tons of fun!

Nice job, Emily!
As I asked on your blog: What did you make the sound boxes out of? And where did you get the shell nomenclature cards?

Yes, the link is a bit funny. I had to edit out some of the extras in the address in order to get there.

Argh Not sure why the computer isn't working for me today. Googled and found you. Tried to leave a comment on your blog, but it wouldn't let me

So I'll just comment here

I love your color pencil containers - that is such a nifty idea!! Also, I'm with everybody else, where did you get your shell pics for your nomenclature cards. Very lovely! Ooh and one more question - what did you put in your sound boxes? I've got that on my list to make.

You have been busy! Thanks for sharing!

That's weird about the link. I fixed it above, but I see other people fixed it for me--thanks!

The sound boxes were made out of empty yogurt containers. I'd been hoarding them for ages, and finally found a use for them. I filled them with dry lentils, oatmeal, flaked coconut, sugar and flour.

I got the shell cards here: http://www.montessorimaterials.org/science.htm#she

The color pencil cans were just regular cans that I taped colored construction paper around--super easy! The only problem was that out of 3 different brands of construction paper I have kicking around, I didn't have any brown or grey.

Ooh - good ideas on the sound boxes - I have some yogurt containers too! I knew there was a reason I was saving them!

Thanks for the link to the shell cards too!

I do have an idea for you. You might want to laminate your neat paper covers for your colored pencils - they'll last a lot longer, and it'll make the colors more vibrant too! Just an idea - you don't have to do it - can you tell I love laminating??

It's beautiful, Emily!
I'm with Shawna about those pretty pencil containers! How heartlifting to walk in and see those!

That's a good idea about starting with practical life/sensorial and then phasing into math/literacy.
