Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Everyone,

I was certain that this had been discussed before, but since I cannot find the thread, thought I would ask - has anyone rad this book? Is is it a good read? I am considering purchasing it from IEW, but have not been able to get a whole lot of information about it (just enough to make me curious
I'd love to hear others' take on this book/philosophy of education.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Tea. I've read the book and have some thoughts- but I'm short on time this morning. I'll come back and chat with you about it a little later. For now, though, if you use the search function at the top of the screen with the words TJ ed and limit the search to "philosophy of education", you'll get several hits. :)

Thanks, Sarah, for the search reminder and keyword ideas.

I know the search feature can be tempermental sometimes. I went ahead and did a search of the main Thomas Jefferson Education threads from the past. Hope this helps.

Short on time too, but I wanted to say that I love this book and come back to it every summer. I still am not sure I know how to "implement" the whole philosophy in my home but it is encouraging and clarifying for me all the same.

The companion book is also good. IEW now has a book which is a compilation of deMille's essays. These are very good and valuable too. I own the essays, but I may buy the book to have a more durable copy.

I have read the book and liked it very much. I also read the Home Companion. The HC fleshes out TJEd a bit and gives it more structure. I have tried to implement TJEd but it just didn't work for me. I think I am still rooted in ps thinking.   I didn't have much trust that this was going to work. It all sounds really nice on paper but for me it just didn't translate well into real life.

I read the book a long while ago but remember liking it but it was so long ago that I don't remember details. I borrowed it from a friend and had intentions of buying a copy but other things took precedence so I still don't own it but I'm glad to for the reminder.

O.K., based on threads that have discussed this in the past, I gather that this educational method is something akin to the Moore's philosophy of education? Would that be right?
