Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If preparation for college is one of your goals for HSing, at what age does this begin?

Is there anything you do with an eye toward college prep in the elementary grades? Middle school?

I would imagine that a major focus during high school is college preparation (again, if it's your goal), but is there anything that needs to start before high school?

I would have said 8th grade...now my ds is a junior and I would revise my opinion. 7th grade for math - everything else can wait until spring of grade 8.

For my son, we set up a solid college prep plan for high school - 4 years of lit/composition, 4 of math, 4 of science and social studies - the only thing I would change, in retrospect, is good math prep. Most public school systems teach algebra in grade 8 for anyone who's ready. I didn't do this, and now I wish I had.

Otherwise, I feel on track. Languages, art (photography), religion...completely fine. It's math that surprised me because I hadn't kept up with what local schools are doing.

If your child is a book-lover, reading great works is an excellent way to boost your college prep program!
