Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It does! We are going to go ahead and try it this coming year. Hopefully it would live up to our expectations.

Hello,

Although Classical Conversations is a protestant organization, we have decided to join for the first time this fall. Since I will be a tutor I've had the opportunity to purchase all of the materials for the Foundations program (pre-K through 6th grade). I've looked through all of the materials.......

From a Catholic perspective all of the materials look fine, except a few of the Veritas Press history timeline cards (the reformation period). Fortunately the children only have to memorize names and important places in history (via the history timeline cards). The detail on the back of a couple of the history cards is what Catholics should be concerned with. A few statements don't shed a positive light on the Catholic faith. The detail on the back of the cards is supposed to be discussed at home (NOT IN CLASS). This is a perfect opportunity to discuss Catholic history with your children. As a tutor, I feel fine with what I'm supposd to teach my class.

I will keep you posted as the year begins.

I am glad you posted Dawn. As I said above I am beginning Classical Conversations (for sure) with my 14yo dd. After the comments here I was concerned about the Veritas Press cards and it made me rethink whether I wanted to do this with my two youngest (5 and 10). After going to another meeting yesterday and getting to see the cards, I got to the same conclusion you did. I think I can do it safely and without endangering my kids faith. In fact I am really excited about it. It sounds like such a great way of implementing a Classical education. How old are your kids? Maybe we can compare notes as we go.

Natalia,

Thanks for responding. Let's compare notes as the year starts. Like you, I don't want to get involved with anything that doesn't shed positive light on the Catholic faith. I don't know any Catholics that have done Classical Conversations in the past, but I DO know several Catholic families where I live that are also starting in the fall. It will be an adventure for all of us (smile). I hope it will be an wonderful adventure. I'm very excited about all that my children will be learning. I will have 3 children in the program. In the fall they will be 7, 6 and 4.
