Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Our 8th baby will be delivered by c-section on July 26th. That's only 13 days away and we haven't decided on a name for our little daughter yet. I think we have it narrowed down to two, though. Clara Frances, and Rosemarie Frances. Dh likes Rosemarie better. I like them both equally...now. Until very recently Clara was my preference. Hubby's middle name is Frank, and his confirmation name is Francis. My confirmation name is Clare. See why Clara Frances is so perfect? But I really like Rosemarie too, and for the past few days have been leaning heavily toward that choice. Here's the thing with that, though: Baby #7 is Mary Amelia Anne - nickname Mamie. We call her by her nickname about 80% of the time, so she is still sometimes called Mary. If we name the baby Rosemarie we'd probably call her Rosie much of the time, so we'd have a Mamie and a Rosie, more than a Mary and a Marie. Still, I'm not sure what I think about having two Marys in a row. What do all of you think? Please help me decide!

I think the reasoning for Clara Frances is very good. Some children like having their own "identity" and sharing a name might not have the best results.

To throw in a wrench, how about some form of Anne for her feast day?

I don't think that there is a conflict between Rosemarie and Mary Amelia Anne at all (in terms of "Mary") and wouldn't let that get in the way of naming her Rosemarie. Our little girl is Rose (we call her Rosie) and I do have to say that I love her name. I also think that the other name is nice and that the meaning behind it could make it really special for your precious little girl, as the previous poster mentioned. May God lead you in your decision and prayers for a safe and happy delivery!

P.S. I love your daughter Mamie's name - Mary Amelia Anne! It's just beautiful!!!

I'm partial to Clare myself (my baby's middle name is Claire ).

And I had the same thought about including the name "Anne" since she'd be born on St. Anne's feast day. But you'd still have the name "Anne" back to back.

I'm not much help....

I love the name Claire. I must also second Jenn's suggestion about the name Anne who happens to be my patron saint.

Clara! Annika's middle name (the second middle name; the first is Catherine) is Sinclair (St. Clair).

I don't think there is any conflict, really. But my dh is Cuban-American and all three of his sisters are named Maria! Only the first is called Maria and the next two go by their middle names, Cecilia and Gabriella. The girls don't mind because they know it really is a lovely tribute to Our Lady.

Right. I meant to add...you can NEVER go wrong with the name Mary, even for boys (Mario, or hyphenated Maria).

Just had to jump in and add that back in our old parish one of our friends has a daughter named Mary and one named Maria and calls them both by those names (no nicknames that I have ever heard). I also know of a family who has several (maybe 6) daughters all named Mary. They all go by their middle names.

Both our daughters have a Marian name. Our oldest dd's middle name is Marissa and our baby's first name is Mary Grace. If we have any more girls we will continue with Marian names.

That said, I think both names are lovely!

In my culture (Philippines), most girls are named Maria ___, shortened to Ma. ___, so it is possible to have an entire family of Marys. To accomodate my husband's French culture, what we've done is to call our girls by their first names and plugged in the French version--Marie as their second names. So I have an Elena Marie and an Isabel Marie. (As an aside, I and my daughters use my maiden name as our middle names, in this case, also a saint's name, Sebastian).

I personally like Clare (which I can't use for my daughters because our last name is Auclair-- Clare Auclair!?) Anyway, that only means my vote can go either way    Good luck on the baby!

First of all, Congratulations!

Secondly, I like both names, but since you and your dh are leaning toward Rosemarie -- go for it! (Mary and Marie don't even sound THAT much alike plus wouldn't it more likely be Mary and Rosemarie?)

I love the name Clara but I don't think it's odd to have a few Mary's or Mary names. To be honest, I would never notice it and when you posted it, I had to read it twice to figure out where are the doubles. Sounds fine to me!

Blessings,
Alice

I love Clara too as I have a Clara Marie. I think both names are nice. I love that old fashion names like Mary, CLara, Emma etc. are coming back.

Thank you all for your input on the baby name dilemma. You've helped tremendously! We still haven't completely decided on a name. I think we're going to have to meet our girl, face to face (which will be exactly 5 days from now), before we choose her name.

Please keep us in your prayers. I'm feeling particularly nervous about the c-section this time around.
