Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I didn't really know the proper subject for this issue but here it is: dd-almost 13 has a very womanly figure. She has only worn sports bras since I feel all the modern padded bras or totally inappropriate for her age. We are having a terrible time fitting her with a bra--or finding someplace to purchase a modest bra in her size. She is about a 36--probably a C.

She has been wearing a sports bra too small for her for soccer for the past several weeks...she told me yesterday and showed me that she is totally raw under her breasts. How can we ever take care of that?? It seems like it is going to be a very hard thing to get rid of, since she still has soccer practice and it is so hot out. Plus, a bra, even one that fits well, will certainly continue to rub her raw.

Any suggestions?

layer shirts and get it healed up and only wear a bra when it's a must until it's healed. Not sure how else to do that.

The best way to measure for a bra that we've found and both myself and 2 dd are not average... measure around the chest under the bust.. if it's an even number use that for the band size.. if it's an odd number round up and use that for the band size. put on the best fitting bra you have and measure around the fullest part of the bust.. subtract the first number from the second. Ever inch you end up with is one cup size 1"= A 2"=B 3"=C.. and yes keep going up.. I'm in a G cup and look way smaller wearing a proper band size and cup size than ill fitting bras.

Then, we've found that you can get GOOD sports bras for larger cup sizes at championusa.com check out the clearance for deals.

Also, I've recently discovered that UK brands of bras have a wider size range (smaller band sizes and larger cup sizes and the inverse of larger band sizes with smaller cups sizes) that you'll find with many american brands. There's some s#xy ones out there but there's also something like This no underwire bra good coverage, comfy and only a bit of pretty lace that's appropriate for any age.

Yes good bras cost more than the cheapie ones at Walmart but imo they're worth every penny in comfort and performance.

And if you don't have a cloth measuring tape for sewing.. just use a ribbon or something without any stretch.. and measure with that.. and then you can lay it out with a ruler or metal measure tape to find measurement.

I would use coconut oil followed by cornstarch to help with healing. I had some chafing issues last summer when pregnant, and it really helped. The cornstarch can be added throughout the day whenever things start feeling moist.

Oh.. we use Country comfort Baby Cream for all cuts and scrapes and rashes and such.. works great.. seems to help things heal fast.. and doesn't hurt any more than having to touch something to put it on does.

I very much second the cornstarch, it really helps.

I like the Hane's Bras at Walmart. They have a kind that is slightly padded, and used to have "modesty petals" to keep ni**les from showing, don't know if they still do. The underwire slightly padded bras are nice, comfortable, affordable and give good support, but aren't ridiculous like so many "push-ups" and such. The slight padding is just enough to afford more modesty and support.

For the chaffing until it heals, a soft material cut and placed under the bra at that area might help to reduce the pain and guard the spot so it can heal.

My sympathies to her, poor girl! Pain, rash, etc. in such a sensitive area is awful.

Another source of comfort until the chafing heals is panti-liners, folded backward over the bottom band of the bra ~ with the lining next to the skin and the adhesive stuck inside and outside the bottom band. The pantiliner effectively works like a bandage and the adhesive keeps things nicely in place. Corn starch or talc definitely help (medicated talc tends to burn though). When my mother was alive she used a prescription: Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream USP 1%. Praying for relief and the ability to find a suitable and appropriate bra for her needs.

I am a 36 J, (and pregnant and nursing most of the time!) and this is the only place I go to get my bras.
http://www.breakoutbras.com

a well fitting bra should NOT cause her discomfort. I have a very odd size and with a good bra I am very comfortable. They have good pages on this site for fitting info. Very comprehensive. Breakout bras is nice because they will help you over the phone to find the size and style that is best for your needs.

I was large early on in life, and suffered terribly with ill fitting bras. It was not until I found online bra fitting shops in my adulthood that I actually had a bra that fit properly!   They also do free shipping for returns if you have to do some trying on to find a size. I am so happy with my bras from this store. They do a great job!

I know this is an older discussion, but nothing compares to being fitted for bras, especially when you are blessed with more. I am rather large, but a small band size.

I found a shop in DC that even has sports bras. For larger sizes you need the right band and cup size. These regular sports bras will not work if she has a small band size. To accommodate the cup, the band will be too large and rub and slide, and vice versa she will experience her current pain.

So if you can find a local shop, even for just one fitting and purchase, that will save so much pain and worry for her. After that you could buy online, but initial fitting is so important.

My daughter is a 28F- we got her a super expensive sports type bra at a specialty shop. It was that or surgery! She dances professionally so she needed the major support. Go get a really good fitting- Victoria Secret etc. didn't measure my daughter correctly.

It really is possible to measure yourself.. and find good quality bras in those sizes.. you just need to step out of the "must get it at walmart" mentality.

There's many places where you can't "go and get fitted". It's a 4 hr one way trip for the most likely location.. and then they want a fortune for the bras. I sew, I'm perfectly capable of measuring all by myself. It's actually fairly easy, so that I think anyone can do it.

The thing is that you shouldn't just accept any particular size.. it's the starting point.. and then you have to try on the actual bras (if you order online it means shipping stuff back) because just like any other item of clothing the different makers don't match their sizes with each other.

But you have to know what a good fit means too. I think I know the website that has a good description but I can't think of it.. but I get ads from there.. so when the next one shows up...

THIS is a fascinating post on bra sizes that was VERY helpful to me. I did not realize before (even though it makes sense) that cup size changes with band size. So, a 40C has bigger cups than a 36C. Once I finally understood it, I've had better luck finding something that fits.
