Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I wouldn't say my just-turned 2 yr old is real verbal but she can talk. However, when she is not getting her way (esp. with big DD 5) she SCREAMS at the top of her lungs...for a looong time.   As you can imagine this is so grating on our nerves and I wonder if the neighbors hear. I can't remember the others doing this although I think they did to some degree but HELP...SOS!!!!

Catch her before the scream. Put an arm around her. Help her express just what she wants to express.

If she screams, remove her from the situation. Which will do a couple of things.. one it will show that you don't care for the screaming but it also won't work for her.. instead of the scream making others do it her way (how often does it get a sibling handing over the item in question or letting her get her way?), she'll find that screaming only gets her put in another room without the item or space or whatever she was "fighting" for.

WHISPER!!!!

My 2nd daughter did this with her older sister all the time when she was that same exact age and my 4 year old had a very hard time with this as well. I agree with Jodie, this might take some watching to catch before hand but I suspect it comes from a frustration of being interrupted or not allowed to speak.

We taught the whole family that if they started to scream, whisper a response. She will be so shocked that she'll stop because she cant hear what is going on. Might just work and usually gets at least a positive response.

Good luck!
