Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Two questions.....

1. What do you do when you are having a Moody Mommy day or week or month ? I guess I'm looking for suggestions or your technique to not let it out on your children.

I'm sure it's hormones from this pregnancy, but I feel myself grumpy and fussy about everything. I don't want to continue downhill. It could be lack of sleep. Many nights, I can't fall asleep until 2 or 3 am -- then my body clock wakes me at 4:30am to get up with DH. Those days are the WORST. Naps aren't an option.

My 2nd question is to anyone who has been through PPD.
Do you recall the mood shift starting in pregnancy?

I am making myself quite anxious wondering if this is an indication of what's to come.

I'm probably not the one to ask about "what do you do", but I can definitely say YES! that the PPD can start in pregnancy.

I'll let someone else answer the practicals!

I don't have time right now Michaela or I'd try and link some.. but there's been several threads on moody and ppd in Our Lady of Good Remedy. You might try looking over there.. lots of good natural suggestions.. like exercise, nutrition (vitamin suggestions), herbs etc.

Oh, Michaela, me too.
This pregnancy I have been moody and had the blues since day one. I do worry what it will be like after the baby is born, such that sometimes I don't even look forward to it (and I'm supposed to want the baby to be born, I'm seven months now!)

I had light "baby blues" with my first until she was 6 or 7 mos, and then a little heavier blues with my second for a lot longer . . . I guess I'm just worried that this 3rd will be worse, since it started already. . .

And the wierd thing is that this pregnancy I am taking more vitamins and getting more exercise than I have gotten in my previous 2.

I'm sorry I don't really have strategies for you. But you are not alone. I am struggling not to be crabby with my family all day every day. I apologize alot, explain that I am tired and my back hurts (or whatever it is at the time) and pray almost constantly for patience . . . I don't know if it is working, but I am trying.

God bless you. I said a prayer for you.

Michaela I don't have any advice as I'm in my first pregnancy but...you aren't alone! I get the "blues" quite often and do get anxious of what will happen once the baby comes.

I've found (after posting here for advice...I'll try to go find my thread) that having a "plan" each day helps. And I try to have that plan in place in my head before I go to bed the night before.

Such as for tonight....we have our birthing class tomorrow night. Something to look forward to tomorrow!! So that means get up and do a load of laundry and begin dinner earlier in the afternoon.

While that doesn't sound like a lot....it's something for me to look forward to!!

Last night I knew that today I was going to organize the Christmas gifts I've bought so far as well as all the baby things that didn't have a home.

It helps me get up in the morning and get moving. And it's always simple things.

Although where you have other children I'm sure this doesn't help as you already have a reason to get up and get moving I didn't think of that until I'd written above!

no Jen, those things still help great suggestions.. especially if it's something you really like to do with your kids.. make cookies or do art or go for a nature walk..

I'm glad you wrote, Jen. It does make sense. We've been sick for 2 weeks -- nothing really to look forward to. Today was homeschool YMCA. We had to finish school at a certain time. I was able to get everyone to the Y.....even though I'd rather stay in my house right now. Plus, I went to bed earlier last night. The extra sleep has to be a big help.

Mary, thank you, apologizing is helpful. It's admitting I did something wrong...this isn't normal. I do tell my kids that I feel a little moody. That seems helpful in reminding myself to keep in control.

Hmmm, maybe something as simple as turning on "happy" music and dancing around would help. I dunno. I don't feel like much right now. lol

My worst ante-partum days, I crawled back into bed maybe 20 times, got back up to change a diaper or fix a meal, then crawled right back into bed. (I was not a "happymama!") I ended up on medication for the whole 3rd trimester, and it helped me function more, take better care of myself, and completely stopped my angry outbursts. As far as practical advice goes, I'm afraid I have none except to be very open with your husband about it (guys just don't get the "hormone" excuse until you explain it well) and ask him to be patient with you (and the housework) on your worst days.

I second this! My poor husband was so worried at one point as my "mood" wasn't like I usually am. It wasn't until we sat down and had a long heart to heart conversation that he understood. He now can help me through when I have tough moments. And I've found that I NEED to let him help me...pride thing! It's okay if he helps with dinner and helps with some chores around here. And I've also found that if I'm ticked off or anxious about something I NEED to tell him straight out and not think that he should just KNOW what's up.

All these pregnancy hormones! Growing a baby is such a miracle and I need to keep reminding myself of that and at times just allow me to feel down for a little bit as long as I don't wallow in it for too long!

I've found that going through all the little baby clothes when I feel particularly low helps a lot too!
