Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A Mother for Choco is a wonderful picture book that gently introduces the idea that family members do not have to look alike to make up a family. The book by Keiko Kasza is about a little bird named Choco who wants a mommy. He asks many different animals if they are his mommy but they each respond that they are not his mommy because they do not look like him. Finally he meets Mrs. Bear who explains that it what mommies do not want they look like that make a mother. He goes home to live with her and her other children - a pig, an alligator, and a hippo.

Just thought I might share this favorite book of our family.

Thanks Waverly for the suggestion. I have a funny story related to this topic - My oldest son was surprised one day when he met another family in which all the children looked similar. He said something like:

Isn't that funny! They all look ALIKE.

It's not a picture book, but over the years my mother went through several read aloud sessions of The Family Nobody Wanted by Helen Doss

We all loved that book!

I read 'The Family Nobody Wanted' many, many years ago and I think it planted the first seeds in my life that was to become a full blown calling from God.

We own many adoption picture books and Mother for Choco is a top favorite.

Has anyone read The Sea Chest? I can't remember the author of the top of my head. It is a beautiful book.

I forgot about the Sea Chest!! It is written by Toni Buzzeo. I'm requesting it again from the library right now.

Thanks,
