I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post, but if not, please feel free to move it.
My highschooler and I discussed her last year and have come up with some plans. One of the things I want to do is to allow her to be exposed to some of the primary history sources without having to bog through reading some of those thick tomes. So I was glancing at Kolbe's materials and wondering how many of those works are available on audio tape. I really want her to read her own literature but ....
Anyone know where I might look to find something like this to purchase? I guess I could always read them aloud myself into a tape recorder but if I could save the work, well....
I know I can get Shakespeare plays from the library probably and I do plan to do some of that for literature. She doesn't have to read every work of Shakespeare in high school. I think we could reasonably read some and watch the plays of others. Could I get Livy or Tacitus on audio tape?

Audible has the complete Tacitus. Couldn't find Livy by himself.

Booksontape.com has many titles. Maybe they have what you're looking for. Your library system might have a series called Great Courses. They're high school level courses on video, DVD and/or audio.

If you can see Shakespeare, it is better than listening or reading it. They're are many videos of Shakespeare, but you might want to preview the newer ones.

MacBeth, thanks for the link. I guess we are dinosaurs, but we don't own an ipod or an MP3 player.
I didn't find the titles on booksontape.com. I guess I may be reading into a tape recorder this summer or maybe getting an mp3 player if I cannot find a regular tape or CD and don't have the time to read the tome either.
I will try the library but honestly that is a real long shot. We have a pretty limited system and when I look for things they generally either don't have it or it is permanently missing and the computer doesn't know it. This is one of the reasons I buy so many books. I have my own mini library. I think our home library is about as large as some of the branch libraries around here, honestly.
I'm off to research mp3 players now and prices with audible. So is it worth it to belong - ie the books looked pretty creepy to me but if they have good stuff like the classics or classical music then maybe we could invest?

Janet, you can listen on the computer without an mp3 player, though the player does make it easier to do other things at the same time  . Like housework  .
Like any bookstore, audible offers the good, the bad, and the (very) ugly...but I have been a satisfied customer for years. And their technical support is great.
When I buzzed through the Kolbe list, I found that Audible had many of the books, but often not the recommended translations. I figured that it was no big deal. And I still think so, though a comparison of different translations makes an interesting rabbit trail.

Thanks. I was beginning to think we could join, download to our computer and burn a CD. We still have various CD players and they are portable enough for us. We are not needing this for travel or stuff and my dd likes to listen while she does craft type stuff and I listen while doing housework - I just turn up the volume as there is plenty of space not to disturb the next person here, so we never even thought of any of those other things I've never heard of till this board.
However, I have been informed by my college dd that she owns an MP3 player.  A friend won it for being found studying at the library and since he and everyone else they knew already owned one, they were tickled to be able to give it to dd and she was tickled to have it. Of course, I still need to have the CD version 'cause the MP 3 player is going with her wherever she ends up going. She, at least, has moved out of the realm of dinosaurs. 
Thanks for the endorsement and that you've used it. That makes a big difference. And, yes, you are correct, I'm not terribly concerned about which translation as I don't really hand stuff in to Kolbe anyways and I'm not repurchasing books every single time they change editions. They are a great source of booklists and give me some much needed consultation support. We have the written text so we can always follow along and see where the translations deviate from each other. Might be interesting.
Thanks for the help. This looks like a good source. I'll have my dd listen in the morning and make sure but it sounded good to me and the price is right!!!!
