Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am considering enrolling my son in an online course for the fall. He will be a freshmen. I am mainly considering English (maybe geometry and a science). Has anyone have experiences between these two schools or best teachers? Is one much more rigorous than the other. I am really not looking for a college class in high school, but this 3rd son needs structure that this poor mom can't give right now
I like the fact that Regina Coeli is Catholic, but I am not sure we can swing the cost since their history and English are combined. Any thoughts or opinions would be most appreciated.
Blessings,
Stephanie

Stephanie -

I'm just now seeing this - I'm back after a 6-month hiatus! We've had lots of experience with RCA and SO, but haven't done English with RCA. English with SO (Dr. Bruce McM) has been great! My daughter is finishing Western Lit to Dante and loves it. It's very rigorous and has a tough reading schedule (the most of the SO courses). My only disappointment is that it doesn't incorporate any writing (outside of an essay question on most exams). Two of my kids will do English Lit next year - my oldest son did it a year ago. It's great, too, with a little less reading and more in-depth analysis than Western Lit.

We've done a lot of Latin classes with Linda Robinson (RCA) and they've been great. We've also done AP Latin with So - also great.

Let's see. If Linda Robinson ever teaches Aquinas again, take it. Ditto with logic (although they have someone else teaching logic now - no experience there).

Gotta run. Let me know if you have other questions!

I am a Humanities discussion leader and composition assistant for RCA (this is my 3rd year) and I enthusiastically recommend the Humanities program. Linda Robinson teaches the freshman class (my dd just finished it) and it was everything I was looking for- very Catholic, taught the kids to have a Catholic worldview of history and literature, and a heavy dose of composition. The weekly discussions were a hit, too! We are looking forward to the sophomore level class taught by Dr. Seeley (from Thomas Aquinas College) next year.

Yes, it's pricey, but you get your money's worth (Humanities is 2.5 credits!) AND there is an outside teacher (besides mom!) for the student to be responsible to. I find this priceless!

Peace,
Macmom
