Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

One of the prayers St. Francis of Assisi is most known for is his "Canticle of the Creatures" or "Canticle of the Sun" also known as "Song of the Sun".

I've found a few new picture books that we read for the month of October, since St. Francis of Assisi's feast day falls on October 4.

My absolute favorite is Song of the Sun: From the Canticle of the Sun illustrated by Elizabeth Orton Jones. We just love these illustrations. It's OOP, but such a treasure!

The newest and very lovely one we found is Brother Sun, Sister Moon reimagined by Katherine Paterson illustrated by Pamela Dalton. The illustrations are just gorgeous. I do raise a little objection in the adjusting of St. Francis' words -- there are some areas that have been made more PC, and not the actual canticle. But my boys poured over the pictures several times, and enjoyed identifying all the creatures.

Canticle of the Sun: Saint Francis of Assisi illustrated by Fiona French. She has her style of painting looking like a mosaic.

The Circle of Days: From Canticle of the Sun By Saint Francis of Assisi

The Song of Francis by Tomie de Paola.

I'm sure I missed a few, but these are the highlights here!

Oh, just checked my shelf and forgot one we found last year:

Song of Creation by St. Francis of Assisi. This is illustrated with beautiful works of art, from various artists. Very lovely.
