Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It's harder to find books illustrated or written by Elizabeth Orton Jones, but we're huge fans here.

Biography

Obituary

Twentieth-Century American Children's Literature Web Site with a bio and gallery.

I think she is most famous for her Caldecott winning illustrations in Prayer for a Child by Rachel Field.

Big Susan written and illustrated by Elizabeth Orton Jones.

also

Twig.

But two other books I've found shows how delicious her illustrations of nature are:

Song of the Sun From the Canticle of the Sun by St. Francis of Assisi

and

Secrets written by her mother, Jessie Orton Jones, and illustrated by Elizabeth. This was my latest find. It's little thoughts or poems on observing nature and the wonder and secrets of it -- all reflecting God. Beautiful, and the illustrations are, too.

I've been thinking of Angie's question of what books I would take to an island, and these would be first on the list. They really put AWE in the reader.
