Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Togo by Robert Blake

This is one of our favorite Iditarod Books, but is a WONDERFUL story, even if you aren't following the Iditarod or know anything about it.

It's the story of Togo, one of the lead dogs who goes an unexpected 150 miles to get the serum to Nome in 1925 during the diptheria epidemic. He was AMAZING! All the credit, fame and hoopla went to Balto, the lead dog who brought the serum INTO Nome. But, not many knew about Togo!

I just read one of the reviews at Amazon, and it's from a man who grew up in Seattle with LEONARD SEPPALA as his neighbor, who used to tell this man/little boy the story of TOGO!!!!   And, then he saw this book finally came out and Togo's story is being told.   Isn't that neat?

The illustrations are beautiful and the story that he tells is very suspenseful and exciting! My girls always hold their breath at certain parts.

I just wanted to let everyone know that we read Togo today because we are studying Alaska this week. It is a story about the dogsled team, and the lead dog Togo, that did amazing things in saving Nome, Alaska from the diptheria epidemic in 1925. It is a beautiful book with lovely painting reproductions. It is also a great story about determination and giving all that you have to help others. My DS5 and DD3 were completely enthralled, but I could see any elementary age child enjoying this story. I don't get this excited about a book often so I thought I would share!

Thanks! Our son will be stationed in Alaska next month and I've been wanting to pick up some books on the state for our reading basket. My children are older, but they never seem to tire of reading picture books

Thank you KristinAnnie - we took this book out from our library on your recommendation. Everyone in our family both learned from and enjoyed it very much
