Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Yes, Picture Book Discoveries is a dangerous forum for me. I want to snap up just about everyone's recommendations. And when I look at what's available in my whole county's libraries, I find ... just about nothing. I could go bankrupt because of my desire to share wonderful books with my children! This is why I don't visit this forum often.

Just for the record, much of this post is in jest. But it *can* be expensive if you live somewhere ... where I always seem to ... that doesn't have stellar libraries. Looks like i have to save again!

Oh, I'm so sorry Tina. I know I am extremely spoiled here. It's almost the opposite for me - it is rare that I can't find a book through our system or the incredible state-wide system. I'll check your system before I make my next posts, Tina!    But I've heard from a few other folks that this picture book a day challenge is "gonna cost 'em."

I know exactly what you mean Tina! I don't live in a good library system, so I have been purchasing it used for several years now. I have a close friend, and the 2 of us are always comparing books-we have become afraid that our husbands will forbid our book visits.:), since there always seems to be a visit to Amazon.com after that.

Mary, you're the worst offender! Every time I see a recommendation of yours, or I see that you second a recommendation, I just *have* to look and eventually put it in my Amazon Wishlist ... which eventually gets moved to Amazon Cart.

You and I seem to have very similar tastes and schooling styles. Too bad we don't live within driving distance. We could home school share books! And, oh, I could learn so much more from you in person than online!

Tina, do you have interlibrary loan available? I had not taken advantage of ILL at all -- too much trouble to figure out how to use it, to much advance planning required, blah blah blah -- but I finally broke down and tried it and have been very pleased with it so far! Sometimes I even use it to preview a book that I think I want to buy, but I'm not positive. (Our ILL program doesn't cost me anything, so it makes the decision easier. I've heard that in some places you have to pay a per-request fee.    )

I was just coming here to suggest the same thing. If there is not a fee, then usually it's pretty painless to do. I get the ISBN number from the amazon website and then just enter the rest of the info.

Also, can you request books for your library to buy? I can do this on-line, and if they buy it, I get put into line automatically for the holds.

I'm soooo sorry! Like I said, I'm going to check your system (is it O or L?) and post some I know you can get! And I concur it would be great to live closer - now technically in western terms we are close but sure not in reality.
