Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I try to get a couple new books every season to add to our Advent/Christmas book collection. I was lucky enough to find We Three Kings by Gennady Spirin this year.

The illustrations in this book are lush and fabulous! My boy are on the cusp of thinking they're too old for picture books -- but this one held their interest because of the intricate illustrations. The words are simply the We Three Kings carol, but the pictures are the real winner.

What a gorgeous book! We have borrowed several of his books, and have The Easter Story, but I had not seen this one.

Beautiful! This would make a great Christmas or Ephiphay gift. How far into the lyrics does it go?

We three kings of Orient are
Bearing gifts we traverse afar
Field and fountain, moor and mountain
Following yonder star

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to thy Perfect Light

Born a King on Bethlehem's plain
Gold I bring to crown Him again
King forever, ceasing never
Over us all to rein

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Frankincense to offer have I
Incense owns a Deity nigh
Pray'r and praising, all men raising
Worship Him, God most high

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume
Breathes of life of gathering gloom
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying
Sealed in the stone-cold tomb

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Glorious now behold Him arise
King and God and Sacrifice
Alleluia, Alleluia
Earth to heav'n replies

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Love,

We found this book this year as well - well actually it's a brand new 2007 publication so wasn't around to find before. It really is beautiful and fills a void as there are few book versions of this song out there.

It includes all the lyrics you posted, Angie.

We found this book, too, and just love it. It does change up some of the words. Not sure why it has "star of LIGHT" instead of "star of NIGHT" and the last verse has a few differences, but otherwise it's just glorious.

I've seen and heard it as "star of light" in other places, too, besides this book. Wonder where/when that variation came about and why.

Thanks for all the information! I have added this book to our wish list! It sounds great!

At Mass on Sunday, our priest referred to it as the "star of light" as well... He said that the kings were following the star, which led them to Jesus, the "light" of the world. I don't know if this is why, but I liked the symbolism!
