Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just did a blog post about our reading this morning ... every so often, I gather a mish-mash of books, picture books, magazines, whatever, and all we do is read those for the morning .... the blog post shows you our "finds" today and every single one of them was great and gives us so much to talk about and research some further or file in our heads for a later time.

Enjoy!

Because I'm trying to expose them to all kinds of things, I don't worry so much about narration .... it's kind of like Leonie's "strewing" idea but with reading the picture books .... this way, if they get hooked on something, great, but otherwise, we've just read a great picture book!

you temptress

I like what you said above to KackyK. I once heard Dr Regis MArtin giving a talk on literature. During his talk he said to read to your children for the joy of reading to your children. That is the only needed reason to read aloud. I thought that was cool!

Now back to my penance.

Mary, I do this sort of thing every now and then...it's such a relief to hear that you don't worry about narrations for it. I feel legitimized by your comparison to strewing. The kids really like taking the day off and just reading together.

No kidding! Mine are hoping for a big snow like last year so we CAN'T go anywhere and just sit cozy, cuddly reading! (I wish I had been homeschooled ... I would have loved days with just reading all day ... and my mom and siblings are as nutty about reading as I am! )
