Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone used this book? I read a blog post about it, which praised it for all ages...it sounded wonderful. But, on amazon, one reviewer states its strong basis in Islam. Anyone here read it?
Thank you!

I have, and it does, but remember that Islamic peoples were great mathematicians, and the author is trying to capture that flavor. Since it is written in story form, it is rather like reading a cultural tale--like an Arabian Nights--with math. It is not an attempt to convert anyone, though the author's dedication does mention Allah.

There is a nice mathematical synopsis here.

We've got it and I agree completely with MacBeth, though "all ages" seems a bit broad. I guess that the story format might capture "all ages."

We really enjoy this book, though I do think that the older the kids the more they will appreciate it. My kids loved it the 2nd time through it (this year), but I think they will like it better in Jr High.

ahh, i was thinking this was something i could read to a littlie. not for the maths puzzles, of course, but just for the story, but would be one of those books that would last 'forever'. I will put a pin in it for now....
