Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ramona and I recently enjoyed The Hungry Hummingbird by April Pulley Sayre. The author is new to me, but it looks as if my library has a lot of her stuff.

Anyone else familiar with her? Here's her website.

This book would also fall nicely into the "realistic" topic ....

I've not seen her picture books, but have used a series on biomes. This is an excellent series for older elementary level. It includes 6 books (with such exciting titles as): Taiga, Tundra, Tropical Rain Forest, Desert, Temperate Deciduous Forest, and I can't remember the other one. Anyway, I used them as Geography for my 5th grader. I wouldn't call them living books, but they are fairly short (under 60 pages). I had dd read a section each day and write a narration, about 20 minutes all together. She protested that they were boring, but she comes up with both tidbits and insights based on what she learned in these books, so they must have impressed her on some level!

Peace,
Nancy
