Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

for this forum, maybe, but...

Do any of you writers out there have the ear of children's book publishers? How do you think one could get a picture book into print without actually being the author for it?

Elizabeth's thread got me thinking about this, because my favorite story is not available as a picture book. "The Knights of the Silver Shield" by Raymond McDonald Alden is at the Baldwin Project, so I assume it's in the public domain. I searched Amazon but it doesn't look as if there's even an OOP version in existence.

Since then I started a little list of stories I wish were available in the form of gorgeous, 32-page, full-color productions. I find that the original stories by the original authors are perfectly adequate, which is to say they're beautiful and I wouldn't want to change a word by "adapting" them. Querying publishers with my own proposal, not being an author or an artist, seems unlikely to get a hearing.

Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?
