Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm looking into this book, but it seems that used copies are thin on the ground. One way or another, it looks to run around $15.

If you've read it, was it a definitely-worth-$15-read?

We just finished up Pedro's Journal (ship boy with Columbus), which the library had.

But I can't get this one from the library or ILL here.

What to do? Hmm....

Oh, I wish I had more time to review this great book more thoroughly for you, Melinda...but very quickly....

Yes! Fantastic living book on Magellan! It was really enjoyed here and prompted some wonderful narrations.

Hillside Education re-printed it about a year ago, and I see their price is around the $15 mark.

I have an older, used copy, but I'd definitely pay $15 for it if that was the only copy I could find.

If you have any specific questions about the book, feel free to ask, and I'll try to come back to the thread when I have more time. I'm sure others can give great reviews, too!

Thanks, Jen.

I felt like Pedro's Journal was just an OK read- not bad, but definitely a good to borrow from the library. That could be because I am a bit burned out on Columbus (we read and narrated the Fritz version last fall).

Pedro's Journal was on my list for our New World Explorer unit, and it was fairly short, so we went ahead and read it. Kids were a bit lukewarm about it.

Magellan's journey will be fairly new for us- hopefully more exciting.

Yes, Ship's Boy-Magellan is worth it! DH loved it, and my two older girls read it this year.....age 11 and 10, and both enjoy it very, very much!

Good- glad to hear another yes vote.

I tracked down an oldish hardback for a not bad price and ordered it.

But I have to ask what is the library doing keeping all those books that I don't want to read? If some of those went, they would have room for Ship's Boy. Sheesh- you'd think they would figure that out.
