Have any of your teen boys read this? If so, did they like it and would you recommend it for a 14 year-old boy?

My boys are too young yet, but they hear enought about it as it's my all time fav. novel together with To Kill A Mocking Bird.
If it were me I would only have him read it if he wants to for fun, and if he is a confident reader. If he has a love for beautifully language and subtle humour he'll love it!

Our teenage boys loved it! They've read it several times and listened to it on tape many times over. When one of our boys was 17 he wrote a short story in the style of Jane Austen as a writing exercise and did a really good job. Following it up with the BBC movie which is excellent was a hit in our house.
Actually, I think our oldest boy saw the movie first and then read the book! The BBC movie is really so close to the book.

My 14yo ds may try it this year. He is already familiar with the story via movies and his sister. Hopefully the reading will be a hit.

I introduced my husband to Jane Austen movies. He can't get enough of the P&P and other series. It is so nice to be able to joke with him on how he is my "Mr. Darcy."
While I don't have teenagers yet, I was thinking how wonderful it would be to introduce these to my sons. I think it gives a little taste of what a true gentleman should be, minus period culture. It has the potential to inspire both females and males.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this was popular literature at the time, and both men and women read Austen.

Dh got hooked on the "new" P&P, the one with Keira Knightly when I was watching it one night. He has since read P&P twice, and has recorded the "older" versions, too. For Christmas, he bought me the cd of the music for the new movie and the movie! He is now heavily into anything Jane Austen!  So far, though, it hasn't trickled down to any of my six dss.
I would say there is hope, though, for your ds!

Well, I hate to be the odd man out, but my 14yo ds would not be interested in it at all. No way. He enjoyed the movie a bit, and he is very well-read, but Austen is not his style at all.

I don't think 14. I think that an older man would appreciate it more than a 14 year old boy--like when a man understand women a bit better and can appreciate the humor a bit more. I know that I find it funnier as an adult than when younger. When younger, stories were more about the "romance" which wouldn't interest a boy so much. Does that even make sense? I think even a senior in high school would "get it" more, maybe?

Thank you so much ladies, for your input - very helpful! I may wait at least a year--he seems quite interested in all of the MODG Medieval books right now, and so maybe we'll ride that a bit longer. . .
