Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My son is looking for "action" in his reads. I figured that ancient history (Greece and Rome) should be enough action and blood for any kid, but he needs some diversion. With his 16th birthday coming up soon (and in summer, to boot), I thought I'd purchase a few "fun" reads. He read Bringing the Boy Home in about 2 days. I'm considering tossing him a copy of Treasure Island or Kidnapped, but I'm slightly concerned that he'll see these as CLASSIC stories and not ADVENTURE stories ... get my drift?

I looked up some books on Amazon, but some had to do with fictionalized evolution, and others ... I just don't know. I gave him a copy of Bringing the Boy Home year last which he devoured in two days. Any other ideas?

Tina

Have you any of the Bethlehem Books? Lots of adventures there.

My boys favourite books are the Ranger's Apprentice Series, lots of adventure.

Sci-fi/wizard type adventure:
The Prydain Chronicles
Lord of the Rings
CS Lewis' Space Trilogy (Out of the Silent Planet,...)

The Princess Bride
George MacDonald: The Light Princess, The Princess and the Goblin, The Princess and Curdie
The Inkheart trilogy
Around the World in 80 Days (might be too school-like)
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Journey to the Center of the Earth

John Christopher's Tripods trilogy (and the prequel, When the Tripods Came) are easy reads, full of suspense and very thought-provoking. (SF, by the way)

My son really enjoyed Mark Twain's book about Joan of Arc. I think it was his favorite read of this year.

My son enjoyed the Silverwing series by Kenneth OpelI read his Airborn series but at the time, I thought it too old for my then 12 yob. I think it would be perfect for a 16. It is really adventurous!

I have been reading the Percy Jacksons along with my 11. It's not too young for me, so I guess it's OK for a 16 year old.
