I have 1 3 year old daughter, who will start pre-k using the first half of CHC's K plans in the fall.
I have tons of books for her already, but I'm trying to fill in gaps. We like vintage books, books with lots of color, and great artwork. She loves Curious George, Clifford, and Thomas books.
Our library book sale is coming up for the half price sale. They do this for 2 weeks once a year, and kids books are anywhere from .10 to just .25 each during this sale.
I am going with a good sized budget, and am trying to gather a list of author's and titles to look for. They rarely get any religious children's books {but of course I keep my eyes open!}, some videos, and mostly just mainstream titles. Once in a while I get a few vintage texts.
Please help me come up with a list? I know I'm going to need supplemental books for CHC grades K-2nd, and the recommended reading for those grades. Any ideas, suggestions, etc would be great - I have just a few days to get my list together before the sale!

Usually there is a list in the CHC plans of supplemental books that go along with their lessons. I would scoop up anything by Jan Brett, Tomie de Paola, the "I Can Read" Science books...

I have used the Sonlight Catalog a lot for ideas...

My kids have enjoyed many of these. You can order a catalog, but it does take awhile to be delivered... probably wouldn't make it you before the sale.

I never take lists to library book sales...it all gets so difficult to keep up with amidst boxes and boxes of delicious books.
I have a fair sense of what we already have at home...I might bring that list for quick reference if you already have a burgeoning home library and you're just trying to fill in a few gaps. If you're looking to just start building a home library, I'd take a list of author's instead (Suzanne linked to a great thread above with some awesome authors listed). My criteria from there generally goes by illustrations. I'm pretty picky about illustrations. And from there condition of book.
Edited to say: I would possibly bring a list if I were looking for a couple of books in particular, for example to fill in a series of books, like the Boxcar Children or Nancy Drew, etc. But at 3...I'd just be looking for lovely picture books with beautiful illustrations on a variety of subjects. And, in particular, I'd be hunting classics. There are many lists like that here if you hunt in the archives.

A few series that I am always on the watch for to add to our collection:
Betsy-Tacy books
Little House book
All of a Kind Family books
American Girl books
I also tend to follow my instincts a lot... if a book looks good even though I've never heard of it, I will take a chance on it for 10 or 25 cents. If it then doesn't work for us (which seldom happens) I list it to trade at Paperback Swap

Ours is pretty easy - they are all on shelves in author order or by dewey decimal. Maybe that's because our library has a used book store open all year - this is just the special before Christmas sale?

Getting to know your authors is a huge help. After a while you also get 'the feel,' open a book have a quick skim taking in the text and the illustrations.
Prayer is also great  I pray that God will help me know what, not to buy and what to grab
