Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hey folks! I pick about E-bay from time to time, and find odd items at good prices. For a few dollars, I bought a poster of a "family tree" of Catholic authors and the countries from which they hailed. On the back, there is a list of books for high school students to read, as recommended in 1941 (I think). Here are the first 10:

As the Morning Rising by Sigrid van Sweringen

A Watch in the Night Helen C. White

What are Saints? by C. C. Martindale, S. J.

The Father Brown Omnibus by Chesterton

False Prophets by James Gillis

A King of Shadows by Margaret Yeo

When the Sorghum Was High John Joseph Considine, M. M.

Pastuer, Knight of the Laboratory by Benz

Heroines of Christ by Joseph Husslein, S. J.

The Four Winners by Knute Rockne

I'll try and list more later (there are 40 all together)...interesting! Some of these are still in print, but most are not. Anyone have a list of books from a Catholic High School (not homeschooling provider) today to compare?

Great book! This one shouldn't be too hard to find as it's in paperback and I found mine at the thrift store. Did you know the author is Mia Farrow's father?

I recognize some of these authors from a great little book I had (until I moved; now I can't find it ). I can't think of it's name, but it had a "family" tree of Catholic children't authors.

Thanks, MacBeth, for posting these. I was eyeing the item on ebay myself (glad I didn't bid against you!)
