How do you handle the great books and literature reading at this stage? Isn't it a tragedy that I barely encountered any of these books in my high school and college career?! Is there some kind of guide that I can use to facilitate teaching and/or learning? hmm?

I am just nesting and trying to get all my ducks in a row for the fall. I don't want all of these books and people with big greek names to intimidate me...LOL!

How about looking through Susan Wise Bauer's book, The Well-Educated Mind for starters? And if you're not of a mind to read the Great Books yourself, then maybe you could rely on the online versions of Spark Notes or Cliffs Notes so you'll be able to have some kind of dialogue. You may also want to consider the study guides from the Angelicum Academy.

While I haven't done any of this yet myself, it's in the plans for oldest dd for high school. I've been working my own way slowly through the Great Books, just so I'll have a basic knowledge and will be able to hold discussion with her when the time comes. Don't let those Greeks intimidate you, they are really quite accessible!
