Our year is almost over and I had 3 dc participate in 3 different book clubs with other Catholic homeschoolers. The book clubs were run by moms who have been doing book clubs for sometime.
Anyways, I thought I'd share the books my kids read this year for their book clubs. And maybe if anyone else participated in a book club, you could share your list too...give us some good reading ideas!
For my 7th grade dd's club, it was all girls. This is what they read:
The Little White Horse, by Elizabeth Goudge
Rules, by Cynthia Lord
The Giver, by Lois Lowry
A Year Down Yonder, by Richard Peck
Interstellar Pig, by William Sleator
The Scarlet Pimpernel, by Baroness Orczy

Although I have to admit we didn't get to read a few of them.

Tina, your list is very familiar to us! My dd and oldest ds have been doing book clubs for several years and they have read all the books you listed in various clubs except for the Door in the Wall (which my dd read on her own) and Hank the Cowdog, which I have read out loud to everyone before. That's kind of funny!
Their favorites were...
My dd can order them all, but I won't do that here  but her top 4 were in order from best to least was Benedict Society, Interstellar Pig, Hugo Cabret and then The Giver.
My ds had some problems with a couple of the titles because a lot of the books in his list were about girls. So he got discouraged after a while. So it's no surprise his favorite is Rascal...but still somewhat of a surprise that he really liked Where the Lilies Bloom too.
The 3rd grade ds really liked Clementine, Rabbit Hill but Call it Courage most of all.

Great lists! Our book club includes girls from 4th-7th grade. Here is our list for this year:
Robin Hood (Howard Pyle) - ok
Mary Poppins - least favorite - not as good as the movie
Roller Skates
Saint Thomas Aquinas (Vision)(We do a saint's bio every November)
Young Fu of the Upper Yangtze - excellent!!!
Poetry Unit
Tree Castle Island - very good
The Westing Game - favorite - very fun, not very literary :-) good for end of the year book
I posted our reading lists for the last 5 years here
We'll be putting together next year's list soon so I am very much enjoying seeing other's ideas! So far I am lobbying for the Invention of Hugo Cabret, Call it Courage, and By the Great Horn Spoon.

What I would like you all to share are your books and projects. If Matilda were to write a book on her club I would be first in line to buy it. I think my ds10 would enjoy a book club. I'm just not sure I have the energy.

Mary Chris--What about a family book club? Could let the kids pick a book, get everyone their own copies to read on their own, send one to Dad, and set a date to be finished, then let the kids plan a special meal and activity to go with the book, create some art or a craft that could be sent to Dad and let them have some e-mail conversations with him about it....? Then you're not taking on another outside project, just doing something really special for your own family.

We are book club neophytes. We only started our club (homeschool 'tween girls, age 10-12) this spring. So they've only done 4 books:
Kitchen Madonna
My Side of the Mountain
Prince Caspian
Come On, Seabiscuit!
It has been great so far and the girls have enjoyed it very much.
Interestingly, the latest issue of Family Fun magazine just came today and I was reading through it. They have a nice article about children's book clubs. They do have some book list recommendations by age. I wasn't particularly excited about their choices - mostly pretty recently published popular titles. I did appreciate the write up of ideas for things to do with the club. Ideas include many thing we do or have seen recommended here like: cooking, crafts, field trips, games that go with the books, but they had some interesting twists on some ideas I hadn't considered. Worth the read if you can get a copy of the magazine. Or if you wait a couple months they do archive some articles from the issues online.
And yes, it has been great following along with Matilda's book club suggestions this year. I also highly recommend Marjorie's threads on the book club they have done for years. Wonderful ideas.
