Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone ever heard of this series of books? I think I have been given quite a treasure. It is a set of 12 books. They are quite old - I noticed the original copyright date is 1920. This set was reprinted in 1971. They are anthologies (which have never really thrilled me in the past) but they contain every classical story, folktale, fairy tale, biography, etc. that I have ever heard of and MANY, MANY that I haven't. You name it, it's in there. My ds spent the entire morning looking through them, marking the stories he wants to read.
Just wanted to share my excitement about this great gift. (A friend found them in her basement. She doesn't even know where they came from.)

We have these and love them! As newlyweds we were "foolish" enough to buy a complete set of encyclopedias + this series as "free gift" from a door-to-door salesman. It was a buy now or you lose kind of deal -- and we signed . The encyclopedias are now somewhat obsolete and gathering dust in my parents' library (although I'm reconsidering getting them back) but we kept this series and read and reread them all the time. I guess in the long run it was worth it after all. You are so lucky!!

My dd loves "My Book House." How fortunate that you were given a set!

Becky,

I got a set on ebay a few years back for "next to nothing" and love them -- the kids are always pulling them for Dad to read at bedtime -- and they really have great stories. If you want the original Sambo story (about an Indian, but the pc folks of the 70s had the story eradicated as they thought it made fun of blacks...) try and get a set of the Book House from no later than the early 70s.....it's a classic story!
